James Bond Scalexrtix is basically a standard Scalextrix set with a couple of cars from James Bond films and a picture of James Bond on the box. It’s not likely to be competing over the same market that Elmo Live will be.

Star Wars Clone Wars Lego puts the latest Star Wars characters and vehicles into Lego form. Sure to be popular as this long running collaboration between Star Wars and Lego has always been in the past.

Even if Elmo Live can manage to fend off these other toys with high expectations, there will still be other obstacles which could prevent Elmo from being a sell out item this year.

Elmo live is an expensive toy for toddlers. More expensive than any toy aimed at this age group in the past. The biggest concern is that this is the worst possible time to release an expensive toy. This is because the financial crisis in the UK has given a lot of parents uncertainty about their future income and therefore encouraged saving rather than spending. Parents are expected to be a little more frugal this Christmas than usual.

Whether Elmo Live sells out this Christmas remains to be seen but at this stage, it looks like Elmo will not quite be receiving the high street battles over stock that was at first expected. Talented young UK singer songwriter Steven Hitchens released his debut single ‘Whoops’ on the Internet on November 3rd 2008. In this article you can learn more about Steven and read my review of his single Whoops.

Influenced by 90s stars Madonna, The Spice Girls, Blur and Oasis Steven Hitchens began writing songs at the very young age of 10. Two of those early songs were titled ‘Blue Blueday’ and ‘Extinction is Forever’.

Steven’s performing career began at a holiday village in Bognor Regis working from 9.00 am - 2.00 am organising games and activities for children and performing every night in cabaret shows. It’s even rumoured that he dressed up as Bradley Bear to help entertain the kids whilst his parents happily propped up the bar! He then built up more performing experience as he toured schools in Holland singing jazz and swing covers.

In 2004 Steven moved to London to attend drama school and that’s where many of his songs were written and sigh - where his heart was first broken. Steven still continues acting and hopes eventually that he will play himself in a film about his life when he becomes a mega music best selling recording artist. His acting training and experience should also stand him in good stead for making music videos.

When he left drama school Steven began to focus more on his music and in November 2007 Steven teamed up with singer songwriter Ben Adams and started to record his debut album which is due be released during the spring of 2009. When I heard the title ‘Whoops’ I thought ‘oh no not one of those naff, catchy songs that are usually released in the run up to Christmas’. You know what I mean - the type of song that gets played for years to come at weddings and birthday parties that gets the grandparents up dancing with the kids. But, I promised to listen to and review Whoops so here goes.

My Review

On first listen I was pleasantly surprised. Yes it is one of those catchy songs, but it doesn’t remind me of anything else and has grown on me every time that I’ve listened to it. ‘Whoops’ suggests mistakes and the song is about a guy who cheats on his partner and is caught out and not for the first time. He wants forgiveness from the partner that he loves but you sorta know that it will happen again.

The chorus ‘Whoops did I do it again’ made me think about works Christmas parties and the embarrassing mistakes that happen. Imagine for weeks afterwards your workmates compounding your embarrassment with a rendition of the chorus every time that they see you!

As a debut single I like ‘Whoops ‘. It’s catchiness, upbeat tempo and singalongability score in its favour and especially as we are heading towards Christmas when it could become popular as a party livener. As a dance tune it also scores good in my book. I found myself wanting to dance and if a dance craze attaches itself to this song who knows how well it will do.

Singer Steve Hitchins who comes from Surrey in the UK certainly has the look of a pop star. I’m sure that the girls will love his moody good looks – I know that I do! Whoops is now available from most digital retailers. As Steve will be releasing his first album next year I’m sure that we will hear much more from him in the future.

Competition so far for the Christmas season is Alesha Dixon’s ‘The Boy Does Nothing’. Played back to back with ‘Whoops’ at a club or party – that sounds like a fun time to me.

Can someone please tell me what is so special about Guitar Hero? I was mingling around in Target over the weekend at two different locations and at both stores, I saw people buying Guitar Hero. Granted, I don’t know if they were on sale but with the holiday season rapidly approaching, it made sense to grab them while they were still on available on the selves.

Teenage boys and I image girls as well have played air guitar for years. With air guitar, you didn’t need to know how to play but only how to look really cool. Since the introduction of the game Hero Guitar, the closest thing to the real thing is this game.

I have to admit, the concept is pretty neat and simple. Yeah, I know all the programming wasn’t that simple but to use it is another story. I got to looking around and found that not only was the guitar controller available, then you have wireless controllers. The number of accessories available will cause your head to swerve. Drums have been around forever. Another name for drums is called a membraphone. This is because drums are really an instrument that makes sound by striking a membrane. Drums consist of the body which is hollowed out. Then, a membrane of some sort is stretched over the end of that drum. Pegs are tightened and loosened to create different tones. Most people think that the body of the drum makes the sound, but it’s actually the membrane that makes the sound.

Drums date as far back as 6000 BC. Mesopotamian excavations have unearthed drums that date back as far back as 3000 BC. Markings on the walls of caves in Peru depict drums. The Native American Indians made drums out of gourds and wood. They used these for their ceremonies and spiritual rituals. Drums have played and important role in many ancient societies and were used for more than just music.

As the uses of drums evolved, drum kits were developed. A drum kit is basically a group of various toned drums. It was found that one person could play more than just one drum at a time. He or she could play several simultaneously. This is also called double drumming. Tom toms and cymbals were invented in China and they were then added to the regular drum kits. Later, more people got creative and added percussion instruments like wood blocks, cowbells, chimes and things. By the time 1930’s rolled around, the standard drum kit had taken shape. This drum kit consisted of a bass drum, foot pedal, large hanging cymbals, hi-hat, snare and tom toms.

Later on during the 1960’s, rock drummers expanded the drum kits, which are the normal standard of today. More cymbals and toms were used as well as another bass drum to increase speed. Electronic drums were also created. Electronics drums are cool in a way because they can create sounds that traditional drums can’t. So then, we had the synthesized drum sounds that you hear in many styles of modern music of today.

If something doesn’t “vibe” or it doesn’t “feel” right, then leave it alone. Another thing you want to look for is external clues. What does their home look like. If it’s filthy and dirty, they probably don’t take care of the drumset you’re about to buy. On the other hand, if they are neat and clean, you’re probably in luck. This is not always the case, and there are exceptions, especially if people are renting or living with roomates, so use your head here.
